Technology to Support Communication

Did you know that technology has been in the classroom for centuries? This is absolutely true except it didn’t look like what we are used to seeing these days as technology yet it was innovative just the same. Technology can and has been used to enhance communication between teachers and parents, students and the global community through computers, televisions, typewriters, printers, even pencils (Dunn, 2011). These innovations have made it easier for educators to instruct their students as well as communicate with those outside of the classroom.

In today’s world, with the new technology the classroom doesn’t end inside the four walls of the classroom. Nor does it end when the child leaves the classroom. No longer shut out from thigs that happen outside the classroom, global technology makes it to where every classroom, teacher and student, can go beyond the four walls and can penetrate the threshold of a school on the opposite side of the globe.

As an educator, I plan to do everything I can to give my students the best possible education that I can by whatever means I have available. These things include parental involvement. Studies prove that increased parental involvement shows major influence on how well the student succeeds (Ramasubbu, 2015). In my future class parents will not have to figure out what is going on with their child. I plan to have my website though a third party site like Google or Weebly.com, the both of them are fairly easy to use and I feel will be beneficial to the families that will access them.

I plan to teach secondary English so my website will be loaded with tools geared towards assisting the students’ success in my class. My website page will include resources for the students to use like an online dictionary and a thesaurus. I will have links to literature and word games where students can earn extra credit on their down time. I will add external links to sites that will be able to assist the students in good state testing prep. I want for all my students to be able to have a hand up in my classroom. I feel that as long as I give a student my all when we talk about their education, there is no reason as to why the students might fail. I plan to add links such as Youtube videos and commentary on lessons we are learning in class. For the students who need information presented in a different way other than my teaching methods, this will be available to them.

With the use of technology comes the need for safety precautions. A lot of applications used in the schools system are preprogrammed to ensure the safety of the children. Most have firewalls that are hard to get pass but the kids are safer when using them. But as we all know adolescent children, they seem to enjoy walking on the wild side. It is the adults in the lives of the children that need to show and demonstrate ethical use of technology if we expect the students to do the same. In my classroom I will expect every student to know and understand the rules of ethical use of technology in the classroom.

Audio books or Just Plain Reading? Whats your preference?

At times life can be a bit busy, but when you are a lover of literature sometimes you have to find  way to get lost in a good book. What is your method of getting your dosage of great literature? Here's one of the latest books that I have listened to. It was a great read, or should I say "listen".  I listened to it one day as I cleaned up my house. Tell me what you think? https://youtu.be/N5tATwKcuYk
